Michigan is wildly interesting.
One of my favorite things is learning why.
Hi, I’m Alexis.
I’m a science communicator and writer based in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I’ve been making educational YouTube videos for more than a decade, but in 2021, I finally started investigating some of the stories directly outside my door, in the state of Michigan. Turns out, this place is outrageously interesting, and I love learning how things got to be the way they are.
Here, you’ll find information on me, what I do, and how we could work together (if you’re thinking about that). I recommend starting with one of these buttons.

There’s a Huge, Active Mine Under Detroit
For more than 100 years, the Detroit salt mine has been pulling millions of tons of rock salt out of the ground. But considering Michigan is surrounded by fresh water... where did all that salt come from?
This video is one of my favorite projects as of late and represents the kind of content I love to make. All research, writing, video editing, hosting, filming, and animations were done by me (unless otherwise noted).
